SECONDHAND STORIES

In this project students created a series of fine art prints based on a collection of short stories they wrote in English class. These stories were derived from shared conversations with senior citizens that our 12th grade students met with every week. The prints were created through a process called intaglio printmaking, and the evolving prints were ultimately transformed into a stop motion animation at the end of the semester. The final prints and short stories were  combined to create a published book, and a custom hand bound version was gifted to each senior citizen.

FOR GREAT JUSTICE!!!

FOR GREAT JUSTICE!!!

In this project, students explored the question: How can art enact social change? Should it? They then paired up with a local non-profit of their choice in groups of four to create art based on contemporary social or environmental justice issues to be permanently installed at the organization. Students interviewed local activists, conducted their own research, and critically examined the relationship between art and social change throughout history.
